There’s a magic about this charming yet confounding kingdom that casts a spell on visitors. In Cambodia, ancient and modern worlds collide to create an authentic adventure. The country is steeped in ancient temples and spiritual rituals. With one of the largest religious monuments in the world, Angkor Wat, Siem Reap is a must if you’re planning to travel through Asia on one of our Spiritual Retreats. Whether visiting as a stand-alone destination or as part of one of our multi-destination healing programs, Cambodia will leave you feeling spiritually enriched.
Angkor Wat was originally dedicated to the god Vishnu in the Hindu tradition. The structure represented Mount Meru, the mythical home of the Devas. By the 12th century it changed to a Buddhist place of worship. Another popular temple, The Bayon, was built later at the end of the 12th century, beginning of 13th. With over hundred smiling faces, it’s a spectacular sight. The closed eyes and gentle smile of the faces are said to represent enlightenment. Reconnect with life’s fundamentals by exploring places outside the main cities. Take a riverboat on the Tonle Sap and Mekong rivers, travel to places like Kampot, famous for its pepper, or Battambang, with its crumbling colonial architecture. Spend time interacting with friendly locals. If you’re looking for an atypical itinerary, you’ve come to the right place.
Cambodia has a warm/hot tropical climate that is relatively calm and consistent throughout the year. The average temperature is 27ºC. There are two seasons, the humid and rainy monsoon season which spans from June to October, and the dry season which is from November to May. The coolest period for our Cambodia tours and Angkor Wat tours tend to be from December to January.
